Kayla Orcutt, LGPC

Child and Adolescent Counselor in Maryland

A School Counselor’s Perspective

Kayla has experience as both an elementary and middle school counselor. This experience gives her a strong understanding of the school system. She also understands the factors that influence a child’s emotional well-being and academic success. Kayla supports children and adolescents experiencing anxiety, inattention, emotional regulation issues, peer conflict, and life transitions. By collaborating with families, teachers, school staff, and community partners, she helps clients navigate challenges. This support extends both inside and outside the classroom.

Support for Adults, Too

In addition to her work with children and adolescents, Kayla has experience supporting adults. She helps adults through anxiety, depression, relationship changes, career transitions, and other life adjustments.

Nature, Mindfulness, and a Grounded Approach

Before becoming a counselor, Kayla spent three years with the National Park Service. There, she developed a deep appreciation for the healing benefits of nature. She continues to incorporate nature and mindfulness into her therapeutic approach. This approach helps clients reduce stress, build resilience, and improve overall well-being. Kayla uses an eclectic, humanistic, and solution-focused approach. She also draws on Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT).

A Safe Space to Grow

Clients have described Kayla as genuine, compassionate, and approachable, with a calm presence that helps them feel empowered to grow. Kayla’s ideal client is a child, adolescent, or young adult navigating life’s transitions. This may involve challenges related to school, peers, or family changes. She values working with clients who are open to growth and willing to build a strong therapeutic relationship. Together, they create a safe space where clients feel comfortable exploring challenges. In this space, clients can take steps outside their comfort zone and work toward their goals.
