Molly Aitken, DNP, PMHNP-BC

Nurse Practitioner

Molly Aitken is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) who offers psychiatric medication management and mental health evaluations in Maryland for children, adolescents, and adults.

Many clients come to Molly Aitken after seeing other psychiatric providers and still feeling unheard, dismissed, or frustrated. They may be tired of repeated medication trials, unwanted side effects, and not feeling better. Instead, they want a provider who listens with compassion, takes their concerns seriously, and looks at the whole person.

Molly offers holistic psychiatric care that goes beyond medication alone. In addition to providing psychiatric evaluation and medication management, she takes time to understand each client’s history, symptoms, goals, and strengths. As a result, treatment feels more personal, collaborative, and supportive.

She has extensive experience working with individuals affected by childhood trauma and helps clients explore effective treatment options for PTSD, including therapy modalities that support long-term healing. Molly also provides affirming, supportive care for LGBTQIA+ clients. In addition, if it is meaningful to the client, she can thoughtfully integrate spiritual or metaphysical practices into care.

My Education/Training

Molly Aitken, DNP, PMHNP-BC, earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Shepherd University in 1999, graduating Cum Laude. She then spent 17 years as an Emergency Department nurse, including the last 3 years working exclusively with emergency psychiatric patients. This experience gave her a strong foundation in mental health assessment, crisis intervention, and compassionate care for individuals experiencing acute psychiatric needs.

While attending graduate school at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, Molly worked as a forensic psychiatric nurse in state prisons in Hagerstown, Maryland. There, she gained advanced experience supporting individuals with complex psychiatric conditions and providing mental health treatment in high-acuity settings. In 2019, she graduated from the University of Maryland, Baltimore with her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and completed her training as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).

Molly’s education and clinical background support her work as a psychiatric nurse practitioner providing psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and personalized care for adults seeking treatment for a range of mental health concerns.
